What Is BPT?
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a 4.5-year undergraduate programme (4 years academic + 6-month internship) that qualifies you to practise as a physiotherapist. Karnataka has both deemed universities (higher fees, own entrance test) and RGUHS-affiliated colleges (government + management quota via KEA). NEET is not currently mandatory. Physiotherapy is one of India's fastest-growing allied-health fields, driven by demand in sports medicine, hospital rehabilitation, geriatric care and increasingly strong opportunities abroad. BPT is the standard entry-level qualification, regulated in practice by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and, since the Allied and Healthcare Professions Act 2021, increasingly by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP). Karnataka doesn't yet have a single dedicated statutory physiotherapy council, so admission and recognition currently run through the affiliating university (RGUHS for most colleges, or the deemed university itself). Eligibility
- Academic: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB)
- Minimum marks: Typically 40–50% aggregate, varies by college
- Age: No strict upper limit at most colleges; some specify a minimum age of 17
No — NEET is not currently mandatory for BPT admission in Karnataka for the 2026-27 cycle. Selection is based on your 12th PCB marks, through KEA state counselling (government-quota seats at RGUHS-affiliated colleges) or the college's own entrance process (deemed universities). This is a genuinely fast-moving regulatory area: NCAHP has discussed making NEET mandatory for BPT from a future academic year, and some reports suggest this has been pushed to 2027-28. Always confirm the current requirement directly with KEA or your target college before applying — don't rely solely on this page for a fast-changing rule.

Admission Process — Step by Step
- Shortlist colleges based on quota type, city and budget — deemed university vs. RGUHS-affiliated.
- Check eligibility — confirm your 12th PCB marks meet the college's minimum aggregate.
- Apply — either through KEA counselling (RGUHS govt-quota seats) or directly to the college/university (management quota, deemed universities).
- Entrance test (if applicable) — deemed universities require their own test; RGUHS-affiliated colleges generally don't for BPT.
- Document verification & seat confirmation — marksheets, ID proof, category certificates where relevant.

BPT graduates typically start in hospital or clinic physiotherapy roles, with starting salaries commonly in the Rs 15,000–30,000/month range, rising with experience or an MPT specialisation. Common career paths include:
