Got Your Seat Allotment? Here's How Fee Settlement Actually Works
A plain-language guide to what can — and legally cannot — be negotiated in your MBBS, BDS, BAMS or PG Medical fee package after NEET/KEA counselling.
State/convener-quota fees are fixed by the Fee Regulatory Committee and cannot be negotiated. Management and NRI-quota fees sit within a committee-approved ceiling — that's where real, legitimate settlement work happens. TurtleEdu verifies your exact college's fee structure and helps settle the correct total package. Free consultation: +91 63666 14585.
Why Your Fee Bill Needs a Second Look
Every year, thousands of students get their MBBS, BDS, BAMS or PG Medical seat allotment and then get handed a fee bill at admission — often for the first time seeing the actual breakup of tuition, hostel, caution deposit and various "other" charges. Most students pay it as-is, assuming it's non-negotiable. Sometimes that's true. Sometimes it isn't, and there's real money at stake either way.
What Is Actually Fixed — And What Isn't
Convener / State Quota: These fees are set by the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC/CFRC) for each college and are not negotiable — the college cannot legally charge above this without it being flagged. What we check here isn't the fee amount itself, but whether the college has added something extra that shouldn't be there — an unauthorized "development fee," an inflated hostel charge, or a miscellaneous line item outside the approved structure.
Management Quota: Colleges are allowed to charge within a committee-approved ceiling for management-quota seats. There is real room to work within that ceiling — this is where a genuine settlement conversation can lower your final number or clarify exactly what it includes.
NRI Quota: Usually quoted in USD, converted at the college's own rate, with its own approved structure. Verifying the conversion and the hostel/other charges is where most of the value is.
Donation and capitation fees — paying extra, unofficial money to "guarantee" or "improve" a seat — are illegal under Indian medical education law. TurtleEdu's fee settlement service works entirely within each college's own officially published, regulator-approved fee structure. If a college is charging within its legal limits, that's the number — our job is making sure it truly is within those limits, and getting you the fairest position inside them.
What TurtleEdu's Fee Settlement Service Actually Does
- Verifies your exact college's official fee structure against your allotment category and quota.
- Checks the fee bill you've been given for anything outside the approved structure.
- Negotiates within the legitimate ceiling where one exists (management/NRI quota).
- Documents the final, itemized total — tuition, hostel, deposit — before you pay anything.
